What's hot...Sun Care

Protecting our skin from the harmful rays of the sun is a year-round challenge, but it becomes especially relevant as we head into the warmer summer months and peak holiday season. This is highlighted by Sun Awareness Week, which this year runs from 6th-12th May 2019. This is the British Association of Dermatologists’ annual campaign to raise awareness of skin cancer, teaching people about the dangers of sunburn and excessive tanning in light of the associated risks of skin cancer.

Today’s conscientious consumer is increasingly looking for suncare products that use natural and organic ingredients instead of chemical nasties, but still offer clinically proven results. A Consumer Insights report by Organic Monitor found that 90% of UK consumers of natural and organic personal care products cited ‘avoidance of synthetic chemicals’ as being important or very important to them, with the same study showing that almost two-thirds of buyers tried to avoid parabens and 19% wanted to avoid phthalates and lanolin.

Certified organic and natural brands are setting an example to the wider health and beauty industry not only in terms of ‘clean’ ingredients which are less toxic and more biodegradable, but also in the practise of more sustainable methods of sourcing and production. But, consumers are also now looking for more than organic certification on labels. Cruelty free, vegetarian and vegan are also now starting to feature on consumer’s ‘tick’ lists and this is helping to drive innovation in the market.
